I've been putting together a few mapping tips and tricks and posting them on G+ and facebook at lunchtime 2-3 times a week. If you're interested, you can find them here:
• tips on facebook: [link]
• tips on Google+: [link]
• collated tips on the blog (every Saturday more or less): [link]

Today's tip is how to do old school blue maps in photoshop, and then how you set up old school blue fog of war in maptool for that true old school feel  I hope the tips come in handy to people, and let me know if there's something you'd like to see covered.

Hey Jonathan,

Thanks for joining The World Builders Guild [link]

Also congratulations on the new Fice and Ice map book that is coming out. You're maps are fantastic so it's definitely great to see a skilled Cartographer being recognised by one of the big publishing houses :)

Thanks :) It's great to be working on the project. It's proper dream commission to have landed.

Yea I bet ;) I'm well jealous :P but you can see from your gallery that you've worked hard for it and it's well deserved. Plus it's an inspiration for other world builders and authors to know that the big publishing houses are still interested in supporting the world buidling of a franchise.

I'd love to know the full story of how you landed the commission as well as the process you've gone through to design the maps. It would make for an interesting interview/article.

I like your food and drinks and maps arts, great stuff... If you are not pro, you could make a folio for a corp job, like at WOTC. :)

Hey Jonathan
I actually stumbled upon your maps by coincidence when I was looking for some inspiration on google. I must say, I think they're absolutely gorgeous! Partly because you seem very skilled at designing continents and placing rivers and mountains in a manner which makes sense. More than though, I think it's really impressive you do it all from scratch and by hand most of the time. It's amazing.

So here is an alternative question for you (though you might have had it before). I was wondering if you do comissions or would simply like to make a map. I am currently working on my own novel and the fantasy world going along with it, but I suck at mapping ^^' Somehow I imagine it would be rather handy having a map when actually writing.

In either case I want you to know I think your work is amazing ^^

Thanks!

I certainly do take on commissions, but I'm booked solid right now. A map is a great aid when writing, and I'd recommend heading over to the Cartorgaphers' Guild and posting a note in the Mapmaking Requests forum: [link]

There's lots of guys on there who'll be able to do a great job for you. Make sure to check the posting advice before posting, but I'm sure you'll find someone with the time to help out.

I just wanted to say, I'm in love with your maps (both tactical and overworld). They really are the most beautiful I've seen, and the scenes are so inspiring I can't wait to devise encounters around them. I bought one of your bundles already, and I'll look for more when I have spare cash - In the mean time, thank you for making some of them free for us :D I can't wait to see more.
