Last year I was commissioned to illustrate 12 24" by 36" maps of the world of George RR Martin's Lands of Ice and Fire. Here's the first ever official map of the Known World. I'll be posting more maps and some of the details over the coming month. Today - the known world: [link]

Great work! Amazing how huge Essos is.

Yep, it's vast. I was amazed to find out how little of the continent even Daenarys had explored.

How much freedom did they give you for this? I've read that some cities only show up on your map and not anywhere in the books, did you create them?

Also are you going to make more maps so we can see what's east of the great waste, the rest of ulthos and sothoryos?

P.S fantastic work going to buy the map collection book now because of these great maps.

I didn't get to make things up :) All the content on these come from George RR Martin. I just placed them where they go!

can you please upload or give a link to a larger version of this picture?

I'm afraid not. I'm contractually limited to these images for portfolio use only. The only way to see the full resolution image is to pick up the poster...

There's some full resolution detail views over on my site (link above)

I've just noticed that you labeled an area "Ghiscar". I thought the Ghiscari were from Ghis? If there is a New Ghis, isn't there an old one?
Reply
:icontorstan:
Yep, there's both an old and a new Ghis on the map.

Assuming that there is still a good deal of land beyond this to the east and south, this must be a rather large planet.

Yep, there's a lot off the map.
